Menu & Items

Adding your first menu

Create your complete menu — categories, items, photos, variants, add-ons, and GST rates — so it appears on your QR ordering page.

What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, your restaurant will have a published digital menu with at least one category and one item, ready for guests to order from via QR code.

Before you start

  • You have an active Restrofi account and have completed the initial onboarding.
  • You have your menu items ready — names, prices, and at least a basic description.
  • Optional: item photos saved on your device (JPEG or PNG, under 5 MB each).

Step-by-step guide

  1. 1

    Open Menu Builder

From your dashboard, click Menu in the left sidebar. You'll land on the Menu Builder page showing your categories (empty at first) and items.

  2. 2

    Create your first category

Click Add Category. Give it a name (e.g. Starters, Mains, Beverages). Categories organise your items and appear as tabs on the QR menu. Add as many as you need — there's no limit.

  3. 3

    Add your first item

Select a category and click Add Item. Fill in: name, price, and veg/non-veg tag. Add a description — you can type one or use the AI Description button to generate one from the item name. Set the correct GST rate (typically 5% for restaurant food, 12% for packaged food). Click Save.

  4. 4

Upload a photo (optional but recommended)

On the item form, click the photo area to upload an image. Use a clear, well-lit photo of the dish — it displays prominently on your QR menu and improves order rates. Photos are automatically resized and optimised.

  5. 5

    Add variants (if needed)

If an item comes in multiple sizes or forms (e.g. Small / Regular / Large), click Add Variant. Each variant has its own name and price. Guests will see a variant selector when they add the item to their cart.

  6. 6

    Add add-ons (if needed)

Add-ons are optional extras guests can choose at order time (e.g. Extra Cheese, Spice Level). Click Add Add-on, set a name and price (₹0 for free add-ons). You can set a maximum number of add-ons a guest can select.

  7. 7

    Repeat for all your items

Continue adding items across all your categories. Changes go live on your QR menu immediately — no publish button needed.

  8. 8

    Preview your menu

Open a browser tab and go to [your-slug].restrofi.com/menu to see exactly what guests will see. Scan one of your table QR codes to confirm the full ordering flow works.

Common issues

My item isn't showing on the QR menu.

Check that the item's availability is set to On (the toggle should be blue/green on the item card). Also confirm the category is visible and not hidden.

The photo upload fails or looks blurry.

Images should be JPEG or PNG, under 5 MB, and at least 400×400 pixels. Very dark or low-resolution photos may look poor after compression.

I set the GST rate but the invoice shows 0%.

If you have a default GST rate set in Settings → Tax, per-item rates override it. Make sure you've saved the item after setting the rate.
