Offline Billing · Restrofi Connect

The Wi-Fi goes. The billing doesn't.

Every restaurant owner in India asks the same question before they buy a cloud POS: what happens when the internet goes down mid-dinner? Restrofi Connect keeps the menu, the tables and your settings on the billing PC, so service carries on, and the cloud catches up afterwards.

Three things keep going

Keep selling

New dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders off the cached menu, with the right GST and charges.

Keep printing

The ticket and a provisional bill go to your counter thermal printer over USB, no cloud in the loop.

Sync, once

Every offline order keeps the number printed on its slip, and that number is what stops a duplicate.

While you are offline

Everything a full table needs, from the machine in front of you

Connect does not degrade to a notepad. The cached menu is your whole menu: categories, variants, add-ons, per-item GST. And the order it builds is the same order shape the cloud would have built.
  • Open a table, or ring up a takeaway or delivery order

  • Order number minted on the spot and printed on the slip

  • GST, service charge and takeaway charge applied from your saved settings

  • Settle in cash, card, UPI or a split across them

  • Part payment with change due, or mark it pay later

  • Discount at settlement, and void with a reason on the record

One order in, one order out. Never two.

The number on the printed slip is the same number the cloud uses. That is what makes the sync safe: push it twice, lose power halfway, hit Sync now while it is already running, and the order is recognised and lands once. When it arrives, Restrofi re-prices it from your live menu and raises the GST tax invoice, silently, without spitting a second bill at the counter.
  • Automatic on reconnect, oldest order first

  • A banner counts down the backlog; Sync now if you are impatient

  • Re-priced from the live menu and your outlet settings on arrival

  • GST tax invoice raised in the cloud; it never reprints at the till

What a drop actually looks like

01

Line drops

Connect notices and shows an offline banner on the till

02

Service carries on

Orders taken, bills printed, payments settled, locally

03

Line returns

Connect pushes the backlog in one go, oldest first

04

Cloud catches up

Orders, GST invoices and reports fill in behind you

What offline does not do

We would rather you knew now than at 9pm on a Saturday. Editing the lines on an order that is already running, moving or merging tables, refunds and reprints all wait for the connection. Connect says so on screen instead of pretending and losing the change. A manager approval offline only works if that manager has signed in on that till while online before. And the till has to have been online at least once, so there is a menu to sell from.
  • No time limit on being offline
  • Nothing extra to buy

Common questions about offline billing

Can Restrofi really bill without internet?
Yes, on the Restrofi Connect desktop app. Connect keeps your menu, your table map and your outlet settings — GST rates, service charge, takeaway charge — in a database on the billing PC. When the connection drops it switches to that copy. Staff carry on taking orders, printing on the thermal printer and settling in cash, card or UPI. Nothing about the flow changes except a banner at the top of the screen.
What happens to those bills when the internet comes back?
Connect syncs on its own as soon as it reconnects, and the banner shows how many orders are still waiting — with a Sync now button if you would rather not wait. Each offline order carries the order number it was given at the till, and Restrofi treats that number as the key. If a sync is retried, or the power goes off mid-push, the order still lands exactly once. Prices, GST and charges are recalculated from your live menu when the order arrives, so the cloud record matches your menu of record.
Does the guest get a GST tax invoice for an offline bill?
Not at the table. The slip printed while offline is marked as a provisional receipt and not a tax invoice, so nobody is handed a document that claims to be something it is not. The GST tax invoice is raised in the cloud when the order syncs — your GSTIN, sequential numbering, CGST/SGST split — and can be printed or shared from the dashboard afterwards.
Can staff still sign in with their PIN while offline?
Yes, for anyone who has already signed in on that till while online. The till keeps a scrambled copy of each staff PIN check, locked to that one machine, and verifies against it when there is no connection. The catch is honest and on screen: a manager approval offline needs a manager who has signed in on that till before, and Connect tells you outright when there is nobody on the machine who can approve.
What can I not do while offline?
Changing the lines on an order that is already running, moving or merging tables, refunds and reprints all wait for the connection. Connect refuses those with a plain message instead of pretending to work and losing the change. Live boards — analytics, sold-out toggles, the overview screen — are also frozen until you are back, because they read from the cloud.
Do I need a special plan for offline billing?
No. Offline billing is part of Restrofi Connect and there is nothing extra to buy for it. The GST tax invoice raised when an offline order syncs comes with Premium (₹699 per outlet per month) and the Chain plan — the same plans thermal printing sits on.
How long can the till stay offline?
There is no timer and no cap. Orders accumulate on the billing PC until the connection returns. The one prerequisite is that the till has been online at least once, so the menu, table map and outlet settings are cached — a machine that has never connected has nothing to sell from.
