A Kitchen Display System (KDS) is a digital touchscreen mounted in a restaurant kitchen that replaces paper order chits and verbal calls. Orders from the POS, QR menu, or counter flow directly to the KDS in real time. Kitchen staff see every order's status, elapsed time, and special notes at a glance, and tap once to advance an order through stages: New, Preparing, and Ready.

Does a KDS require special hardware or a dedicated device?
No. Restrofi KDS works in any modern web browser — Chrome, Safari, or Firefox — on any tablet, monitor, or smart TV. Android tablets from ₹8,000 work perfectly. There is no proprietary hardware to purchase or install.
How fast do orders appear on the kitchen display?
Orders appear within one second of being placed. Restrofi uses Server-Sent Events (SSE) to push orders in real time, which is faster than a thermal printer warming up.
How do I know which orders need attention?
Each order card shows an elapsed time counter from when the order was placed, so kitchen staff can always see which tickets have been waiting longest and prioritise accordingly.
Can multiple kitchen stations use the KDS at the same time?
Yes. Multiple devices can display the same KDS simultaneously. A grill station and a cold-prep station can each have their own screen showing all live orders.
Is the Restrofi KDS included in every plan, and can I still print KOTs?
Yes. The browser KDS is included in Premium (₹699 per outlet per month) and in Chain. Restrofi also prints KOTs to a thermal printer, through Restrofi Connect on a PC or the Restrofi Android app on a phone or tablet with a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi printer, so you can run screens, printed KOTs or both.
